In the late 1930s, Hohner commissioned noted artist and designer John Vassos to create some eye-catching designs for their harmonicas, resulting in three separate design patents issued in 1939. US Design Patent 116069 covered the art deco inspired lines of the double-sided Echo Elite shown above. US Design Patent 116067 covered the design of the single-sided Echo Elite, also marketed under the model name Regina:
A third Vassos design was covered by US Design Patent 116068, for an instrument issued under the names Marine Band, Echo Elite and Comet. An example of the latter is featured on this page.
